Job Opening: Wholesale Sales Associate

SCOPE AND GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB

Sale Associate will grow sales of a broad line of local and organic ingredients to diverse buyers. The position includes working directly with wholesale team in servicing customers of the  wholesale division. The principle objective is to seamlessly connect buyers at institutions, restaurants, retailers  and food artisans with local farms. This involves providing a level of service and expertise that makes buying local sustainable products the easy choice for professional chefs and food buyers. Includes building and maintaining relationships that benefit the local sustainable farming economy and increasing local access to the high quality produce off our own farm.

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Outreach to potential customers.

  • Register new customers on website, provide tutorial and ongoing support.

  • Deliver samples to customers.

  • Provide customer service for assigned customers.

  • Coordinate orders with the Wholesale Team and Ooooby Team.

  • Maintain quality control, verify customers received product the matches their expected quantity and quality.

  • Invoice customers, coordinate receiving of payments with book keeper.

  • Review and study weekly fresh lists to be informed for customers communications.

  • Receive and respond to calls and text messages from customers.

  • Be aware of routing and logistics of operations.

  • Meet with supply team on incoming sourcing needs and opportunities

  • Participate in weekly Wholesale Team meetings and provide sale report

  • Maintain ambitious but attainable sales targets.

  • Secure pre-sales product and communicate to supply coordinator.  

 

OTHER DUTIES

 

  • Take responsibility for the brand promise and provide exceptional service at all times.

  • Be familiar with and have a sound knowledge of wholesale products and food safety.

  • Attend and contribute to training sessions and meetings.

  • Exercise responsible behavior at all times representing Food Commons Fresno.

  • Maintain strong, professional relationships with colleagues, partners, and customers.

  • Participate in growing other aspects of Food Commons Fresno operations.

  • Carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Experience in produce sales or similar positions

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Ability to lift and twist while carrying boxes weighing up to 50 lbs.

  • High comfort level with computers, common software programs and applications.

  • Passionate about local food system development in the Fresno region.

  • Flexibility and ability to work in a complex and dynamic startup environment with balance and a healthy sense of humor.

  • Highly accountable and high level of self-initiation.

 

Strong preference will be given to applicants with the following attributes:

  • Significant previous experience in food or farming businesses.

  • Familiarity with standard produce packs, sizing, and ratings.

  • Strong connections with potential customers

  • Experience with social media management and marketing

  • Availability of reliable transportation.

  • Multilingual.

 

HOURS and COMPENSATION:

  • 24-32 hours a week to start (flexible but likely Monday,Tuesday, Thursday, Friday)

  • Compensation based on experience.

  • Opportunity to increase hours and pay may become available with business growth and positive job review.

It is the first prototype of a national Food Commons model, that is structured to retain ownership, profits and governance of a vertically integrated food business within the local community. FCF has been operating since May 2015. The company is committed to working with small farmers, ranchers and producers of dairy products within the region. Food Commons Fresno has a goal of sourcing products within a 200 mile radius, aligning purchases with the California seasonality and supporting farmers and ranchers that use regenerative practices.
