Job Opening: Lead Produce Packer

SCOPE AND GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB

The role of Lead Produce Packer is to provide leadership to the produce packing team to enable and promote accurate, efficient, and effective work. While core administrative and managerial duties will remain the responsibility of the Food Commons Fresno management team, the Lead Packer will act as the first line of problem solving and supervision and elevate unresolvable issues to the next appropriate staff person. Due to the nature of the position, the Lead Packer will need to understand the characteristics of and exhibit model behavior to the packing team.

In addition to standard Produce Packer duties, the Lead Produce Packer will:

 

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Observe & improve incorrect or inappropriate produce packer conduct.

  • Observe & highlight correct packer behavior and praise exemplary performance.

  • Raise issues of substantial concern or extraordinary merit with management.

  • Use of discretion as to whether to take decisive action on an issue or bring it to the attention of the next appropriate staff person.

  • Maintain a checklist of daily, weekly, and monthly produce packing tasks.

  • Assist with the delegation of tasks to the produce packing team.

  • Post regular produce packer schedule & accommodate for simple schedule change requests by staff that prior to the scheduled work day.

  • Implement policies and procedures as assigned.

  • Regular participation in operations and/or management meetings.

  • Maintain highest responsibility in upholding facility security.

  • Carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

The role of Lead Produce Packer does not include:

  • Discipline or reward of staff.

  • Acceptance of same-day scheduling requests, notifications of tardiness, sick leave or no-shows.

  • Taking action that would be deemed as a human resources task.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to continuously stand or walk and use both hands for the duration of your shift.

  • Ability to bend, reach and lift frequently.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds numerous times throughout the shift.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.

 

EXPECTED HOURS:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. 20-25 hours/week. Schedule varies, must be available to start 6am Tuesdays.

  • Opportunity to increase hours as sales grow.

 

COMPENSATION:

  • $11.50/hour

  • At-will employment

  • Job review will take place after 6 months.
